I’ve been thinking hard about how to have a great time Super Bowl Sunday watching the game with hardcore Falcons fans AND hardcore Pats fans…Seriously, it could get ugly, and my plan–to employ my own personal creation, Margarita’s Ghost–could either solve the problem or make it a whole lot uglier….here it is, tell me what you think…
Mix the following ingredients in a shaker:
- 2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice
- 3 parts high quality tequila
- 1.5 parts Cointreau
- 1 parts Caged Heat Cocktail Syrup (Caged Heat is made with ghost peppers and it is delicious and spicy! You can order it from amazon here.)
Fill the shaker with ice and shake thoroughly until cold.
Pour into martini, coupe or other “up” glasses that have been rimmed with a mixture equal parts sugar, salt and chili powder. (If you don’t like the color or flavor of chili powder, try mixing orange decorator’s sugar with salt instead–and be sure to encourage your guests to drink around the rim so each sip has some of that yummy stuff.)
Garnish with lime wedge or wheel.
This goes GREAT with Bob Armstrong Dip…if you’ve never lived in Texas, maybe you never heard of it–it’s great! Click here for a recipe from scratch, but you can slap it together with ready made ingredients: it’s taco meat in the bottom of a bowl, completely covered with queso dip and topped with a dollop each of guacamole & sour cream, served with tortilla chips.
Update: I invented another cocktail for the occasion & it stole the show! One guest claimed it cured her jetlag! Here it is:
1.5 oz Eagle Rare Bourbon (I only use Eagle Rare for this)
1 oz fresh blood orange juice
0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
0.5 oz Caged Heat Cocktail Syrup
1 small, fresh egg white
dash Regan’s Orange Bitters (or similar such as Angostura or Peychaud’s)
Shake all ingredients in a shaker BEFORE adding ice so the egg is creamy; add ice cubes and shake until cold. Pour into a cocktail glass over a giant ice cube (or serve up in a coupé); garnish with a blood orange wheel and a Luxardo maraschino cocktail cherry. (If the cherry’s not Luxardo, skip it.)
